Frequently asked questions

  • How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture is the strategic insertion of small, thin and, sterile needles into specific parts of the body with various positive effects.
Some of the ways acupuncture effects the body are:
    1) Reducing inflammation, regulating hormones and calming the nervous system.
    2) Stimulating blood flow to area surrounding needle, therefore increasing circulation and promoting healing ✨
    3) Modulating the nervous system and encouraging parasympathetic activity, inducing a state of well – being and relaxation.
    4) Encouraging the release of endorphins and other endogenous opioids which are our bodies natural pain killers.

  • how should I prepare for acupuncture and how will I feel afterwards?

You don’t need to worry too much about coming to your acupuncture appointment prepared. One thing we recommended is making you eat a meal or snack within 2 hours of the appointment to reduce your risk of getting dizzy during the appointment. Some people get dizzy around needles, so if you know that is you, make sure you have a full tummy when you come in :)

After the treatment you should feel very relaxed. Occassionally you will feel temporary brain fog as the stress homrones leave your body, but that passes within 15 minutes and then you should feel relaxed and maybe a bit tired. If you get any dry needling then you will feel sore for a day or two in the muscles after they have released.

  • how does fire cupping work?

Fire cupping uses heat from a flame to heat the air inside a glass cup before placing it on the skin. The temperature difference between the col cup and hot air inside creates a vaccuum and it will suction to your skin. It will not feel hot as the air cools quickly before it reaches you. Cupping helps release adhesions and tension in the connective tissue between your skin and muscle, called “fascia”. This tissue can get tight and restrict blood flow and range of motion to you muscles. It is important to maintain mobility of our fascia as well as out muscles.
